6-WEEK ONLINE WRITING WORKSHOP
Structure to turn your ideas into writing that does your creative brilliance justice
You've been circling the same ideas for months.
You have 857 phone notes, fragments, memories, overhead conversations & perfect bonmots.
They’re all sitting there unused!
You know you thrive with some structure and playful parameters to make writing possible again.
Okay: let’s do that!
In six fortnightly sessions, you’re gonna turn the ideas you’ve been circling into vivid, finished pages.
The good news is: you don’t need a Dramatic Life Story to do this. You don’t need to become a different or ideal version of yourself! Instead, you’re going to turn up for yourself and this thing you love: writing.
THE ONLY LIVING MATERIAL WORKSHOP I'M RUNNING IN 2026
Your writing practice needs structure, not a punitive inner monologue
You’re thinking about writing more than you actually write. You’re wondering why it’s harder to write than it used to be. You're waiting for the "big idea" before you start. You have notes, screenshots and drafts: but no method for turning them into something real.
Living Material gives you the structure, space, and tools to understand what you’re trying to say in your writing; across six fortnightly Saturdays, with prompts that actually work.
Step #1
See what's already there
Learn to notice the vivid details, material, and stories hiding in the plain sight of daily life: phone notes, diaries, memories, drafts and fragments & more
Step #
2
Turn it into writing
Use expansive prompts, exercises and methods from published writers to shape your material into vivid, finished pages: without overthinking.
Step #3
Build a rhythm that STICKS
Leave with tools you'll use again and again, and a regular, easeful writing practice that feels sustainable, exciting and genuinely YOU.
VIVID, EASEFUL, FUN (yesssss)
Weeks from now, you'll have actual pages (not jostling just ideas)
COLLECT
Brand new pages of vivid writing drawn from your life
SHAPE
Clear narrative threads and how to move them forward
SUSTAIN
A writing rhythm that’s vivid, exciting & real
Six workshops.
One vital writing practice <3
We start with detail in the everyday, move through collecting from life and noticing ourselves, then gather what already exists: phone notes, fragments, memories, weird stories you forgot about; and turn it into fertile material (writing as compost). You'll discover how creative structures help you actually focus and finish (delicious restriction), and identify the narrative themes you're circling and shape them into something cohesive.
Fortnightly Saturdays.
10-11:30am BST (UK)
Live on Zoom with recordings
What previous workshop attendees say:
“I normally work across lots of notebooks and lots of notes in the notes app. It’s so easy to feel so overwhelmed by it all. But since you introduced your concept of ‘Big Chaos Document’, I’ve started my own big messy document – and it’s been going really well for me. You’ve been a big inspiration and enabler of creativity to me. Thank you!” – Ruby
“This workshop so helpful. A reminder of how much I already have - in my notes, in half written documents, in my head, in my city … to draw on…” – Sarah
“I got so much out of the Living Material. I was really struck by how connected i felt and how easily i became immersed in the prompts. Stevie is so great at what she does, and im so thankful for the boost of inspiration and motivation.” – SL
"Working with Stevie affirmed for me that if I stop putting so much pressure on myself, the work will flow more easily.” – Florence
“I loved this writing exercise: it showed me how to zone in on something specific. I now have lots of ideas from the material I have!” – Lucy
Listen, you don't need a big dramatic life story to write meaningfully
You want to write more and you know that gentle structure is what actually gets you moving. Writing feeds you on this deep level, but you feel like you need to shape your ideas first. You have notes, screenshots and fragments; but haven't figured out how to develop them.
You collect small moments of wonder when you leave the house,
but you're yet to get them on the page.
Living Material stops you circling and gives you structure to actually write

Format: Six fortnightly Saturdays, live on Zoom (recordings provided)

-
Together we will read and write ideas of ‘the everyday’, with the attitudes of writers like Joe Brainard, Georges Perec & others. Work with creative & playful exercises that orientate your curiosity towards the vivid details, rhythms, and themes already hiding in plain sight.
-
How to collect from life, so that it becomes second nature. This week asks: which everyday observations are ripe, and what is allowed to be collected? How do we do it when life is already so full? We also explore stealing, and if it’s ever okay as writers to steal.
-
Discover how to find your self, voice and stories from the rich material of your life (even if it doesn’t yet feel ‘rich’!) Choose whether and how to write into personal lore, memory and attitudes.
-
Gather what’s been sitting quietly but is full of possibility: like phone notes, fragments, memories and drafts — and work with compost as a metaphor to turn it into new fertile written material. We’ll explore simple, invigorating and clever methods used by published writers to organise material into finished works. We’ll ready our unique toolkits that allow us to return to writing again and again.
-
Discover & appreciate how creative limits can actually let you focus, refine, and complete your writing — so that it takes form. Stockpile creative, sustainable & lively tools you can use over and over.
-
Learn to identify the narrative ideas you’re circling in your work, and how to shape them into something cohesive. We’ll work with exercises for noticing, and experimenting with what’s been emerging over the previous weeks – and exactly what you need to keep going.
DOORS CLOSE: Thursday 28 May
If you've been telling yourself it's time to return to your writing, this is it!
This is the structure & reason to do that.

Each 90 minute workshop combines writing time with close readings and learning different methods we can use to identify stories in our daily lives, and write them in our unique voice.
I’ll share exciting texts to fire you up creatively, and you’ll write from prompts designed specially to get you into the practice of writing vividly from what’s right in front of you (both physically and in your mind).
We’ll use the chat box to share our reflections, and there are brief moments to unmute and share your thoughts, only if you’d like.
There’s very little homework; occasionally I provide optional prompts to help you keep writing between sessions. We read the texts in the workshop. -
That’s okay, it happens. All attendees get access to recordings of the workshops.
-
Yes, Living Material is for people who already have a connection to writing. You don’t need to identify as a ‘real writer’ or have a regular practice. But you know writing is something you have a deep yearning for and you’re ready to do more of it.
-
The workshops are hosted as a shared space (rather than a webinar format) to foster trust, safety and community.
I encourage attendees to have their camera on if they feel able, and you’re absolutely welcome to switch it off while writing to give yourself a break. It’s not obligatory to have your camera on, and I trust you to know what’s best for you. -
Only if you’d like. There are opportunities to share small pieces of writing in the chat box, if you find this useful. Sharing is always optional and supported in a warm, gentle & generous space.
-
Living Material is a workshop for anyone yearning for time and space to write. In this age of individualism it’s all too easy to believe that we must do everything alone.
We reject that in these workshops; by gathering together for gentle support, momentum and growth as we write.
If you’re struggling with rhythm in your writing, I absolutely recommend you see what happens when you write with others. In Living Material we show up for ourselves and each other.
