A precious lunch-hour of your own.

In a one-hour LUNCH WRITING session you’ll discover that even bite-sized chunks of time turn into something tasty. You’ll steal time from the working day: for you and your writing. Writing in that mid-day statutory break is famously how the poet Frank O'Hara wrote his deliciously-titled LUNCH POEMS.

In one hour of LUNCH WRITING you will:

  • Write regardless of feeling ‘ready’, with an expansive writing prompt to get you flowing

  • Feel that delicious satisfaction of having written – instead of feeling bad about not writing

  • Be making a real & serious commitment to yourself, by blocking writing time into your cal

  • Find gentle accountability writing alongside others in a deeply supportive space

  • Grow clarity about what how to return to writing regularly – even in pockets of the working day

  • Find the magic beyond resistance – see what happens when you show up & write through discomfort

  • Discover how powerful it feels to steal time from the working day to write!

FAQs

Q: I can’t attend the whole session, is that okay?
A: You're welcome to join for as long you can. Using the full session is encouraged (because grabbing as much time for yourself to write is powerful!). But even 15 minutes of writing is great progress. Leave whenever you need to, just say ‘bye in the chat.

Q: Can I keep my camera off?
A: Yes, turn it off or on – whichever you prefer.

Q: Will I be expected to participate or speak?
A: Only if you’d like to. When we finish writing there’s time for one or two people to share their thoughts on how it went. Use of the chat is also encouraged.

Q: Will we be sharing our work?
A: No, this session is for writing only. You can use the chat to check in and say hi; you can share what you’d like to work on, if accountability helps.

Q: What if I don’t have a job or am self-employed and therefore don’t have a formal ‘lunch hour’?
A: Lunch Writing is for everyone. When I’m talking lunch breaks I mean it literally and not literally: the ‘pleasurable lunch break’ mentality is a lifestyle!

Q: Do I need to be an experienced writer to attend?
A: Nope. Everyone is welcome. Whether you write, or you’re trying something different.

Q: Will there be a playback?
A: No, this is just a live co-writing session in which to write. It's not a writing workshop.

A bit about me – hi, hello, hi

I’ve been writing since I was a blog-era teen in the 2000s. For a long time I suppressed my writerly side in order to Be Sensible and earn a living. I wrote for big brands which bought me zero joy, and was not a well time.

In 2017 I started stealing writing time in my corporate job – the first step in regaining my confidence in writing and understanding how to keep going !!, even when you feel like you don’t have the headspace.

I started LUNCH WRITING to create space & structure for people to write together. I want everyone to experience the deep satisfaction of a regular & realistic writing practice.

Now I’m a writer, producer & creative coach working with writers & artists to DIY a career they genuinely love – and which pays the bills. Creative pleasure for all of us! In 2023 I was awarded Develop Your Creative Practice funding from Arts Council England to work on my book.

Here’s what I believe:

You have what it takes to write!
You only need your desire to write – and the will to return.

We all deserve to do work we love. And to practice what we want to become, with whatever time we have.

When the world is on fire, we need people making art & telling stories. We need writers – of all types – to show us what kind of world is possible.

We all have a role to play in making the world a fair & good place. That role is the thing you love, but might not yet be ‘doing’.

Whether you’re new to writing or returning to your practice, I want us all to feel that delicious satisfaction of having written… so you can keep writing, grow your confidence and feel ready to share your words with the world.
